Mk1 transit elf Tyrell support vehicle
We have been commissioned to recreate the Elf Tyrell race team support vehicle , a twin wheel base bull nose Mk1 Transit with a 3.0L Essex V6
Starting out as a left hand drive German fire truck, bought and shipped over to the uk with plans to convert it to a camper before being purchased by the current owner
With all the paint removed the previous repairs and rust are now visible
With the shell stripped, bare metalled and zinc coated the parts are dismantled and organised ready to be shipped for plating , chroming and Powdercoating
Being originally a German fire engine the Transit is left hand drive so a right hand drive dash was sourced but needed a repair to the stereo aperture and had a few extra holes for various unwanted switches etc
Being a left hand drive its not just as easy to swap the dash from left to right ,the steering box need to be replaced and the mounts and swing arm replaced but also the pedal box is totally different along with the servo mount and heater box. There’s also a lot of critical holes that needed to be made for the pedal box , cables etc
Even the handbrake needed to be swapped from left to right
The original Tyrell van did not have window in its side doors so we have had to fabricate an infill panel and some reinforcers and weld in and then fill smooth replicating the original look
