Mk 1 Escort YB Cosworth turbo

Bought as just a bare shell with an axle and front crossmember this mk1 has been dry stored for the last 30 years. In excellent condition it will under go a total rebuild sporting candy red paintwork, Rs2000 decals, a Cosworth YB turbo engine, brake and suspension upgrades and stripped out interior.

The underside has been coated in some type of bitumen which has to be removed before the shell can go to blasting.

With the bitumen removed and the flat panels hand stripped to bare metal the shell is shipped of for media blasting.

With the shell blasted its evident that the Escort is in excellent shape.

With the body shell zinc coated the fabrication can begin.

The homemade reinforcers will be removed and replaced with the correct items.

At some point an aero style fuel filler cap has been fitted in the rear post which need to be removed as an alloy tank will be fitted with the filler cap in the boot.

With the Cosworth engine and gearbox in place we can start modifying the transmission tunnel and fabricate the gearbox mounts.

An Airtec radiator and intercooler will take care of the cooling.

Due to the size of the rad/intercooler the original radiator towers and a large portion of the slam panel has had to be removed .

To avoid high intake temperatures and  limited space in the engine bay the air filter will be housed under the wing .

A bespoke mounting rail to house the brake and clutch resevoirs .

With very little to no space in the engine bay  and the new header tank  in the original washer bottle position we had to mount a slim line washer tank under the inner wing  and behind the headlight bowl with the filler neck protruding into the bay.

As we have had to remove most of the original slampanel and theoriginal bonnet catch a couple of discreet locking bonnet pins have been fitted to keep the bonnet secured..

A group 4 fabrication tank with built in swirl pop and jic fittings.

With the engine in and the rad/ intercooler in their final position the slam can be finnished off

Compression struts, adjustable track control arms,RIX roll bar, GAZ coil overs and a quick rack takes care of the front end.
